Chrissy Metz Reveals Escape from Hollywood’s ‘Dog-Eat-Dog’ Culture to Southern Serenity (Exclusive)

Chrissy Metz’s current lifestyle contrasts dramatically with her years starring in the Emmy-winning series This Is Us, which concluded two years ago.
“I relocated to Nashville,” the actress exclusively reveals to PEOPLE, discussing her recent lifestyle shift.
“After two decades in Los Angeles, being closer to my Florida-based family became crucial during pandemic times,” explains the 44-year-old. “The manageable distances and relaxed pace here significantly reduced my stress levels.”
The Southern charm particularly resonates with the performer.
“This city thrives with culture,” she observes. “Between exceptional music and cuisine, there’s genuine community spirit. Hollywood’s competitive atmosphere constantly buzzed with ‘What’s your next role?’ queries – it felt relentlessly cutthroat.”
While continuing her acting career, Metz emphasizes Nashville’s role in reconnecting with music and literature. Her upcoming children’s book When I Talk to God, I Talk About Feelings (releasing April 8) follows her previous spiritual work, reflecting her lifelong spiritual journey.
“Preschool teaching taught me children crave emotional validation,” notes the American Horror Story star about her inspiration. “They need acknowledgment of their inner world.”
“We’re finally prioritizing mental health awareness,” she continues. “This book aims to equip children with emotional vocabulary before challenges arise, while helping me process my own childhood experiences.”
The author acknowledges the project’s challenges.
“Simplifying complex emotions for young readers required careful thought,” Metz admits. “We crafted relatable scenarios like ‘Bobby accidentally hurt me’ to demonstrate healthy expression – crucial for both children and my personal growth.”
The Breakthrough actress delves into her spiritual connection:
“Church visits during youth offered sanctuary and self-discovery,” she recalls. “I sought understanding beyond daily struggles.”
“Spirituality sometimes faces unwarranted criticism due to religious stereotypes,” Metz reflects. “My relationship with a higher power – which I term God – remains deeply personal and foundational to my existence.”
“Surrendering control proves difficult,” the Masked Singer alum confesses. “Thankfully, divine guidance surpasses my limited perspective.”
Regarding devotional practices, Metz maintains:
“Prayer permeates my daily routine,” she shares. “From air travel safety visualizations to general well-being wishes, it’s my method of releasing control through positive energy.”
“This spiritual practice remains intensely personal,” she clarifies. “While vital to me, I respect others’ unique paths without imposition.”
When I Talk to God, I Talk About Feelings becomes available for pre-order immediately, with official release scheduled for April 8.
