Kim Kardashian: The Unexpected Witness in the 2016 Paris Heist Drama

Kim Kardashian is set to provide testimony in the case involving the suspects of the 2016 jewelry heist in Paris, as reported by PEOPLE.
The proceedings are slated to commence in May, as TMZ disclosed on Tuesday, March 26.
On October 3, 2016, the SKIMS entrepreneur, 44, was held at gunpoint at the No Address Hotel amid Paris Fashion Week. Five masked individuals aged between 40 and 50 years old detained her while they made off with millions of dollars worth of jewelry in the dead of night. Among the items stolen was a $4 million ring given to her by her then-husband Kanye West.
Authorities in France initiated an inquiry, resulting in the arrest of 17 individuals linked to the theft across the nation in January 2017. The first four perpetrators faced charges on January 12, 2017.
“She’s constantly surrounded by paparazzi, any of whom could have leaked information to others for a price,” stated Christopher Hagon, a managing partner at the Florida-based International Security Consulting Company, in an interview with PEOPLE in October 2016. “This could either be an insider’s act, or she has been under observation. I suspect it’s a combination of both.”
One of the apprehended individuals was Gary M., the younger sibling of Kardashian’s chauffeur in Paris.
Earlier that evening, Kim was with her sisters Kourtney Kardashian and Kendall Jenner but retreated to her hotel room alone while they enjoyed a night out in the city.
Kim’s bodyguard, Pascal Duvier, accompanied the Poosh founder, 45, and the model, 29, during their outing.
“I was using Snapchat, letting everyone know I was back and that the others were going out,” she mentioned during a March 2017 episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, indicating that the assailants likely monitored her through social media. “I believe they were aware Pascal was with Kourtney and that I was alone.”
French publication Le Journal du Dimanche noted that Kim informed authorities it was right before 3:00 a.m. when she “heard a sound at the door, similar to footsteps” and reached out to Duvier.
“Through the door, I spotted two individuals arriving, along with the night concierge who was restrained,” she stated.
The mother of four revealed that the assailants bound her while she was “dressed in a bathrobe, with nothing beneath.”
Kim recounted the traumatic event emotionally while discussing it with her sisters in season 13 of KUWTK.
“They pulled me out into the corridor on top of the stairs,” Kim remembered. “That’s when I clearly saw the gun, unmistakably. I was kind of gazing at the gun, then back at the stairs.”
“I thought; ‘I have a fleeting moment to make this rapid choice,’ ” she expressed.
“Should I dash down the stairs and risk being shot in the back? It disturbs me deeply to contemplate. They could either shoot me from behind, or if I manage to get away and they fail, if the elevator does not open swiftly, or if the stairs are locked, then I’m doomed. There’s no escape.”
