“Benny Blanco’s Hilarious Attempt to Play Matchmaker for Fiancée Selena Gomez: ‘I Was Sure She Couldn’t Stand Me!'”

Selena Gomez might have been the one that slipped away for Benny Blanco, due to his own actions.
The music producer, 37, revealed that he once attempted to set up his fiancée Gomez, 32, with one of his acquaintances, believing she “disliked” him while they appeared on the March 24 episode of the Jay Shetty Podcast.
“I thought she disliked me,” Blanco mentioned regarding Gomez, recounting that they first encountered each other 16 years prior during a meeting arranged by Gomez’s mother, Mandy Teefey, to collaborate on a song.
“Clearly, 99% of it was in my imagination,” he carried on. “I was speaking with her and said, ‘Oh my God, I have so many amazing single male friends … We have dinners at the house regularly, you should swing by sometime.’ I wasn’t even contemplating anything and we’re discussing our ideal date and such.”
“I desire for her to be included in our social circle and I want to ensure this situation is resolved so the song turns out well,” remarked Blanco. He disclosed that he and Gomez then commenced messaging and exchanging “unflattering” selfies as they developed their friendship.
Gomez admitted during the podcast that she eventually did “begin to develop feelings for [Blanco]” throughout their communication, to which Blanco replied, “I had no clue.”
When queried by host Jay Shetty about his thoughts on nearly undermining his relationship with Gomez, Blanco answered, “I believe everything occurs for a purpose. Perhaps my actions were what made her feel comfortable enough.”
Blanco and Gomez declared their engagement in December 2024 after over a year of courting. Gomez affirmed their relationship in December 2023 by liking and commenting on fan account posts of the couple on Instagram.
Blanco and Gomez are currently endorsing their fresh collaborative album I Said I Love You First, which provides “listeners an exclusive insight into their relationship,” launched on March 21.
According to a press announcement, “This album was created naturally … enabling them to craft art that genuinely mirrors their experiences. It narrates their entire journey — prior to their meeting, falling in love, and contemplating what the future entails.”
I Said I Love You First is now available for streaming.
