Prince William’s Favorite Christmas Song Was a Toss Up Between Mariah Carey and This Hit, Chosen Because ‘It’s a Bit Different’
Prince William’s favorite Christmas song is an unexpected classic!
While speaking to the Royal Marsden Hospital radio station — where he has been president since 2007, early in his working royal life — the Prince of Wales, 42, told host Barry Alston that his choice was “a bit different.”
“For this particular chat with you, Barry, I’m going to say ‘Feliz Navidad’ is my favorite Christmas song because it’s a bit different,” he said, adding that “I could say Mariah Carey, who I love dearly, as well.”
“That’s a good one, and obviously there are many others, but I think I’ll probably go with ‘Feliz Navidad.’ It’s a bit more jolly,” the future king said, per The Mirror.
The popular Christmas song — sung mostly in Spanish — is a hint into Prince William’s linguistic prowess. The royal is fluent in Spanish, French, German and Swahili, according to The Mirror, and William taught himself the latter language during his days at the University of St. Andrews, which is also where he met his future wife Kate Middleton.
In addition to revealing his favorite Christmas song, the Prince of Wales also told Royal Marsden Hospital what his favorite Christmas movie is: Elf!
“I would have to say probably Elf,” Prince William said on the show. “It’s very funny, and I keep watching it every Christmas and it still makes me laugh.”
William also added that he and Kate, also 42, and their kids Prince George, 11, Princess Charlotte, 9, and Prince Louis, 6, take part in family board game nights, naming Monopoly and Risk as household staples.
“We are playing board games with the children quite a lot,” Prince William said. “We love Monopoly — that’s good, and Risk, have you played Risk before?”
“That’s a good board game,” the prince added. “It goes on for hours and usually everyone gets very cross because they lose. But that’s what I like playing.”
It has long been rumored that the royal family is banned from playing Monopoly after Prince Andrew once quipped, “We’re not allowed to play Monopoly at home. It gets too vicious.” While many took his joke to heart, as PEOPLE previously reported, “it’s safe to assume it was just that — a joke.”

William, Kate and the kids are already out at their country home Anmer Hall in Norfolk, near Sandringham House, where the family of five will join King Charles and other members of the royal family for the traditional royal family Christmas this year — including likely taking part in the annual walk to St. Mary Magdalene Church on Sandringham’s grounds on Christmas morning.
