Elton John Celebrates 10th Wedding Anniversary with Husband David Furnish: ‘Happy Anniversary to Us’

Elton John and David Furnish are celebrating another year of marriage!

The longtime copuple — who entered into a civil partnership in 2005 and wed nine years later when same-sex marriage became legal in the U.K. — marked a decade since their December 2014 wedding and 19 years since their civil partnership on Saturday, Dec. 21.

John, 77, and Furnish, 62, posted a wholesome photo on Instagram to celebrate their 10th wedding anniversary. In their joint Instagram post, the five-time Grammy winner could be seen smiling alongside Furnish while out on a boat during a sunny day.

“Happy Anniversary to us 🚀❤️,” the duo captioned the snap, in which they both wore sunglasses, to mark the milestone anniversary.

Several friends and loved ones congratulated the couple on their latest milestone, with Linda Evangelista, Mario Testino, Jewel, Donatella Versace, Dan Nigro and others sharing their well wishes.

“Happy Anniversary you gorgeous pair,” Versace wrote. “I love you both soooo much ✨💜.”

Furnish and John tied the knot in 2014 during a small ceremony at their Windsor estate in Berkshire, while surrounded by friends, including  Ed Sheeran, David and Victoria Beckham and Ozzy Osbourne. The pair had announced their plans to wed nine months earlier, when same-sex marriage became legal in the U.K.

“We don’t feel the need to take an extra step legally. But since we’re committed for life, we feel it’s really important to take that step, and take advantage of that amazing change in legislation. We all live by example,” Furnish told the Las Vegas Review Journal at the time, revealing plans to keep the wedding small.

The couple met in 1993, John proposed to Furnish in May 2005 and they registered their civil partnership on Dec. 21, 2005.

Elton John and David Furnish attend the World Premiere of Disney+ Documentary “Elton John: Never Too Late” at Toronto International Film Festival at Roy Thomson Hall on September 06, 2024 in Toronto, Ontario.

John, who was honored this year as Time‘s Icon of the Year, shares two sons with David: Zachary, 13, and Elijah, 11. Speaking with the publication, he reflected on how his role as a dad is his most important.

“On my gravestone, all I want it to say is, ‘He was a great dad,’ ” John told the outlet while speaking alongside Furnish.

He shared a similar sentiment while speaking with Good Morning America‘s Robin Roberts earlier in December.

“My music speaks for itself,” he said. “My legacy is that I was a great husband and an even better father. … The music, the career is fantastic. It’s been mind-blowing, groundbreaking. But the most important thing to me in my life is making sure my children are happy, they have a wonderful life and that I was good to them. That’s all that counts.”

Elsewhere during their joint conversation with Time, Furnish detailed why the pair chose not to homeschool their two sons.

“We deliberately didn’t homeschool our children because we want them to be their own people and to define life as they want to be defined,” he explained.
