Kate Middleton and Princess Charlotte Share Sweet Fashion Moment with Matching Velvet Bows at Carol Service
Like mother, like daughter! Kate Middleton and Princess Charlotte coordinated ensembles at the Princess of Wales’ fourth annual Christmas carol service at Westminster Abbey in London.
The royal mom, 42, who hosted the event, wore a long red coat designed by her wedding dress designer, Sarah Burton for Alexander McQueen, including a large black velvet bow at the collar. She completed the look with pearl drop earrings, black boots and her hair styled in her signature bouncy blowout.
Meanwhile, Princess Charlotte, 9, mirrored her mother’s look, her own black velvet bow that pinned back her hair, which she wore down in light waves.
Charlotte was joined by her siblings, Prince George, 11, and Prince Louis, 6, in their first joint appearance in six months as they supported their mother in her annual event.
The festive bows weren’t the only similarities. Much like her mother’s red coat, Charlotte wore a burgundy coat from Trotters.
“It’s a timeless classic, it’s very well-cut and very comfortable,” Sophie Mirman, founder and creative director of Trotters, tells PEOPLE. “It’s handmade in a little workshop in Portugal, and literally every piece of that coat is hand-stitched. It’s quite an extraordinary piece of work. Coats are usually mass-produced, but each coat is made by one person from beginning to end, from cutting the fabric to hand-making the buttons to stitching the velvet collar.”
“Charlotte just looks absolutely gorgeous,” she adds. “It’s wonderful to see her growing up in our designs — does become very special, especially at these big occasions.”
The hue of Prince William’s tie matched that of Charlotte’s coat, while George and Louis’ ties matched the hue of their mother’s.
The whole family supported Kate at her Together at Christmas carol service, though King Charles and Queen Camilla were noticeably absent.

“This year’s service provides a moment to reflect upon the importance of love and empathy, and how much we need each other, especially in the most difficult times of our lives,” Princess Kate’s office previously said of the event in a statement.
“The service will shine a light on individuals from all over the U.K. who have shown love, kindness and empathy towards others in their communities.”
