Why Gwen Stefani Thinks Reba McEntire Is ‘Mad’ at Her on The Voice
On this season of The Voice, anything goes.
During a Monday, Nov. 11 episode of the NBC singing competition series, Jake Tankersley was met with a difficult decision after coaches Gwen Stefani and Reba McEntire hit their steal buttons for him.
For the Knockouts, Tankersley — who’s a part of Team Snoop — performed “Going, Going, Gone” by Luke Combs but ultimately wasn’t chosen to stay in the competition. Just as he was ready to say goodbye, both McEntire, 69, and Stefani, 55, hit their buttons.
“I loved your performance, I loved you before. [Stefani] blocked me last time so I’m going in there again. I’d love to have you on Team Reba,” the country singer said.
Stefani added: “I don’t have a country singer on my team and I feel like I deserve that.”
On a more serious note, the “Just a Girl” singer added that she loves “coaching all genres because to be able to be here on The Voice to nurture somebody else that has the dream that I already got to live, I’m so blessed.”
“I would love to coach you,” she concluded.
After taking a moment to himself, Tankersley first directed his attention to McEntire.
“Reba, I love you so much. You’re an Okie, I’m an Okie but Gwen used her only block on me and I’m gonna go with Gwen,” he said.
McEntire then gave Stefani a hug and congratulated her.
“Somebody that would take such a risk and pick me over Reba, maybe it’s meant to be and I’m going to be able to do some great work with him,” Stefani said with excitement.
Later in the episode, Stefani confessed she was feeling “guilty” about Tankersley’s choice.
“I’m knocked out by these knockouts. I just beat Reba, like, I actually feel guilty about it. I think she’s mad at me!”
The Voice airs Mondays and Tuesdays on NBC at 8 p.m. ET, and is available to stream on Peacock the next day.
