Kamala Harris Responds to Donald Trump Saying He’ll ‘Protect’ Women, ‘Whether the Women Like It or Not’

Kamala Harris is refuting Donald Trump’s claim that he wants to “protect” women.

While speaking at his rally in Green Bay, Wis. on Wednesday, Oct. 30, Trump, 78, said his team warned him not to say he wanted to “protect the people” and “the women of our country.”

Recalling the conversation, Trump then added that he was going to protect them “whether the women like it or not.”

Harris, 60, shared a clip of Trump’s speech on X (formerly known as Twitter) the same day, and captioned it, “Donald Trump thinks he should get to make decisions about what you do with your body.”

“Whether you like it or not,” the Democratic presidential nominee added.

While talking in Pennsylvania on Wednesday, Harris continued the theme as she spoke about “a fight for freedom” and “for the future.”

“Like the fundamental freedom of a woman to make decisions about her own body and not have her government tell her what to do,” she said in a clip shared to X.

Harris’ comments come after Trump made a play for women voters last month by suggesting that reproductive rights will be a topic of the past if he is elected to another term.

In an all-caps post on his Truth Social platform on Friday, Sept. 20, he said women were “more depressed and unhappy” than they were four years ago and vaguely promised to help them flourish, including by getting abortion off people’s minds.

He then said at a North Carolina rally one day later, “I will protect women at a level never seen before. They will finally be healthy, hopeful, safe and secure. Their lives will be happy, beautiful, and their lives will be great again. So women, we love you. We’re going to take care of you.”

Both Trump and Harris have been ramping up their criticism of one another ahead of Election Day.

During their presidential debate on Sept. 10, the pair went head-to-head on the topic of abortion, with the vice president vowing to reinstate Roe v. Wade while Trump celebrated the U.S. Supreme Court for overturning it.

“One does not have to abandon their faith or deeply held beliefs to believe the government and Donald Trump certainly should not be telling women what to do with their body,” Harris said.
