Liam Payne Had Multiple Drugs, Including ‘Pink Cocaine,’ in Body at Time of Death: Report

Liam Payne had several drugs in his body, including “pink cocaine,” at the time of his death on Oct. 16 at age 31.

Sources confirmed to ABC News that a partial autopsy revealed the One Direction alum “had multiple substances in his system” when he fell from the third-floor balcony of his hotel room at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

According to ABC’s reporting, one of the substances found in Payne’s body was “pink cocaine,” a recreational drug that generally includes a combination of methamphetamine, ketamine, MDMA — and not necessarily cocaine — per the National Capital Poison Center.

The sources also told ABC News that “an improvised aluminum pipe” used to ingest drugs was found in Payne’s hotel room.

According to the report, the British singer’s body will remain in Argentina until the autopsy is finished.

Ahead of Payne’s death, the hotel’s chief receptionist called 911 after becoming worried about Payne’s behavior, per local outlets La Nacion and Clarin, as well as Sky News.

According to a translated La Nacion transcript of the call, which was made at 5:01 p.m. local time, shortly before Payne’s death around 10 minutes later, the employee said the “Sunshine” musician was intoxicated and presumed he was “under the influence of alcohol and drugs.” They insisted that someone needed to come “urgently” to the location.

“What I’m asking is for someone to come urgently,” the worker said, per a transcript shared by the BBC.

The person on the other end of the line confirmed that SAME (Buenos Aires’ public emergency medical services system) was on its way, according to the publication. During the call, Payne’s name was not mentioned.

Sky News reported the hotel employee said the guest’s life might be “in danger” because he was “in a room with a balcony.”

“We’re afraid he could do something that threatens his life,” the manager — who said his name was “Esteban” — explained, according to the translated call published by the publication, which also revealed Payne had been at the hotel for “three days.”

The BBC transcript stated that the worker said that Payne had been “trashing the entire room” before his death.

According to a preliminary autopsy report, the “Teardrops” performer died from multiple injuries and “internal and external” hemorrhages, the National Criminal and Correctional Prosecutor’s Office confirmed to PEOPLE.

The coroners confirmed to PEOPLE that 25 injuries in the autopsy were “compatible with those caused by a fall from a height,” adding that “the head injuries were sufficient to cause death,” while the “internal and external hemorrhages” of the skull, thorax, abdomen and limbs contributed to Payne’s death.
