Tori Spelling Says Dad Aaron Spelling Okayed Her Going Topless in Scary Movie 2

Tori Spelling is spilling all the tea about her time filming Scary Movie 2 — including how her dad gave his blessing for her to go topless in the 2001 comedy.

On the most recent episode of her podcast MisSpelling, the actress was joined by longtime friend and Scary Movie 2 costar Kathleen Robertson for a look back at their seemingly wild time on the film.

According to the pair, they had formed a close bond while working together on Beverly Hills, 90210. Robertson, who has already been cast in the Keenan Ivory Wayans-directed film written by and starring Shawn and Marlon Wayans, recalled her excitement when she learned that Spelling had scored a part.

“I was so scared I wasn’t gonna get the part because you were in it,” Spelling admitted. “You know, here I am trying to transition to the big screen, whatever that means anymore. But, I was like, you know, two 90210 girls?” Luckily, she said, “No one even thought twice about it.”

Because neither actress had appeared in the first Scary Movie film, Spelling said the considered the pair “newbies” on the set of the sequel and formed a three-person “clique” with co-star Tim Curry.

“We got along with everybody, and everyone was super kind. But they had a built-in relationship,” Spelling said of the returning cast. “So, yeah. Anna [Faris] and Regina [Hall], like, would be together, and it would be you and me and Tim.”

“I don’t know if you remember, but that production was something where I think we were supposed to be working on it for, like, six weeks, and it ended up being, like, four months,” Robertson remembered. “It was so over budget and, like, so crazy. And you remember, like, we would just go to set and we wouldn’t even have sides. It would just be like, ‘We’re just gonna improvise today.’ ”

“There would be days, we would come in, go through makeup and hair. We’d go to, like, one of our trailers, and we’d be talking and waiting. And the Wayanses would be writing stuff. And then they’d be like, ‘You know what? We’re just not gonna film today,’ ” Spelling said.

According to Robertson, the Wayans brothers were particularly impressed with Spelling’s improv chops. “I remember Keenan was always kinda, like, shocked at how good you were at it,” she told Spelling. “You would just go off and do the craziest s—.”

“I remember when we went to the premiere being terrified for you,” Robertson continued, “Because we hadn’t seen the movie. We were just, like, ‘What if they use some of the stuff that you did and said that was really kinda out there?’ ”

Spelling said she needn’t have worried, “because they practically cut me out of the movie.”

“I’ll never know what happened,” she added. “There are certain scenes that technically don’t even make sense story-wise because they were too busy chopping my lines out.”

One scene that was cut — that, in fact, was never filmed — would have required Spelling to go topless in a spoof of the 1982 horror film The Entity starring Barbara Hershey.

“It wasn’t negotiated beforehand. It wasn’t ever brought up. Nothing. And then I remember sitting in my trailer and getting the script, and I was like, ‘Woah,’ ” Spelling explained.

The actress said her manager at the time put in a call to her father, über TV producer Aaron Spelling. “He was like, you know, ‘It’s a Miramax film. Like, this is a big deal for her. If it’s not hurting anything or if it’s not weird story-wise, maybe she should do it,’ ” Spelling recalled. “I’m like, ‘What?’ ”

“It came down from, like, the top. Like, it’s important for the scene, is what they basically said. And he was like, ‘If the Weinsteins want it, she should probably, like, not go against that,’ ” she explained. “And, no, I didn’t do it.”
