Lana Del Rey’s Husband ‘Is Different’ from Other Men She’s Met. Why That Fueled Their ‘Whirlwind Romance’ (Exclusive Source)

Fans were surprised by the seemingly swift blossoming of Lana Del Rey and husband Jeremy Dufrene’s relationship — but they’ve known each other for a few years.

Del Rey, 39, and Dufrene, 49, tied the knot on Sept. 26 at the public bayou where he works as a captain at Airboat Tours by Arthur in Des Allemandes, La., PEOPLE confirmed the next day. Now a source says the “whirlwind romance” has worked for them.

“They initially met a few years ago the first time and then reconnected earlier this year,” the source tells PEOPLE. “It’s been kind of a whirlwind romance, but Lana’s close friends hoped she would get married.”

The source adds, “Jeremy is different from the men that Lana meets in the entertainment world. He’s a great guy. He’s charming and charismatic in a Southern way, very much a gentleman, and he treats Lana really well. She’s an old soul.”

A rep for Del Rey did not immediately respond to PEOPLE’s request for comment.

Previously, PEOPLE confirmed the “Born to Die” singer and Dufrene obtained a marriage license from the Lafourche Parish Clerk of Court in Louisiana on Sept. 23, and they subsequently had 30 days from the application date to say “I do.”

According to photos of the celebration obtained by U.K. newspaper the Daily Mail, Del Rey wore a floor-length white gown with a scooped, ruffled neckline, while her hair was tied back with a light blue ribbon and curls falling over her left shoulder.

Her father, Rob Grant, walked her down the aisle, Daily Mail reported, and her siblings, Caroline Grant and Charlie Hill-Grant were also in attendance.

The “A&W” singer first shared photos with Dufrene on Facebook in 2019 after taking one of his wildlife tours, writing alongside a set of images at the time, “Jeremy lemme be captain at Arthur’s Air Boat Tours.”

Following fan speculation throughout 2024, the pair went public with their romance when they attended Karen Elson’s wedding to Electric Lady Studios owner Lee Foster in New York City on Sept. 7.

Other guests at the event, where they were photographed holding hands, included Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce, as well as Karlie Kloss and Linda Evangelista.

Dufrene is a father to two daughters and a son from a previous relationship. This is Del Rey’s first marriage.
