Chrishell Stause Shares ‘Scary’ Experience from When Her ‘Vintage’ Breast Implants Ruptured

Chrishell Stause is getting candid about a 2024 medical experience. 

On Sunday, Sept. 15, the Selling Sunset star, 43, posted a video on Instagram talking about a “scary” experience from earlier this year. Her 15-year-old breast implants ruptured and she underwent a medical procedure to get the silicone removed and to replace her implants.

“I think it is just a mental block when you know that you have ruptured breast implants,” Stause said at the start of the video. “It’s odd. I didn’t like feeling like I could be hurting my body.”

She originally got her breast implants “about 15 years ago” by a surgeon who is no longer in practice, she said. 

“So, a long time had passed, and I actually got one of those full body scans and realized that they were ruptured and [I] needed to find a new surgeon that could basically get all of the silicone out and replace my implants,” the reality star explained.

“I think that’s the scary part. It actually was a surprise to me,” she said of finding out that her old implants had ruptured. “I didn’t feel any symptoms.”

Looking back, Stause noted that there may have been signs that she either missed or did not associate with the medical issue. She then thanked her surgeon, Dr. Josef Hadeed, whom she collaborated with for the video.

“When I met Dr. Hadeed, I was like, ‘Okay, I was in the best hands,’ ” she added, before noting that people with “vintage” breast implants should get them checked out regularly. “I know a lot of people go through this. A lot of people might be living with them and don’t know it.”

Stause hopes to destigmatize the experience, saying, “I feel like the whole process was so much easier than I think I had built it up. I was a little nervous, obviously, and it was not as dramatic as I thought it was going to be.”

At the end of the video, the doctor noted that Stause’s new implants are “looking great,” two months after her surgery.

The soap opera alum shared an emotional caption along with the video, writing that she felt scared when she became aware of her condition.

“My first thought was fear, thinking about having to undergo surgery and if the rupture would lead to any complications,” she wrote. “But very happy I found @josefhadeedmd, and had an amazing experience with him and his team.”

She then added a message of self-empowerment, stating that “plastic surgery is a personal choice and I’m in no way encouraging anyone to change anything about their body.” However, she continued to urge those who decide to undergo a cosmetic procedure to “stay on top of your health.”

Selling Sunset alum Heather Rae El Moussa commented on Stause’s informative video, writing, “omg I’m so sorry that happened.”

According to Mayo Clinic, it is common for people to experience zero symptoms when their breast implant ruptures. However, some people experience “breast pain or changes in the shape of the breast.” Additional problems can occur when the “silicone leaks from an implant,” leading to potential irritation and scar tissue. It is recommended for people to undergo an imaging test roughly five years after getting implants and then regularly every few years afterward as “the longer an implant is in place, the more likely it is to rupture.”

Last month, Stause reflected on the struggles she has experienced in her life while sharing snaps on Instagram from her luxurious vacation in Greece with her wife G Flip and friend Chris Appleton.

“If someone showed this to my 12 yr old self washing her hair in the river who wasn’t sure when she would get to have a place to call home again, I am not sure I could have believed it 🥹,” she wrote in the caption of a carousel of photos and videos from her summer resort stay.
