King Charles and Queen Camilla Attend Church on Second Anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s Death

King Charles and Queen Camilla stepped out to attend church on the second anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s death.

On Sunday, Sept. 8, exactly two years after Elizabeth died at Balmoral Castle in Aberdeenshire, Scotland, at age 96, the royal couple attended a church service in the village of Crathie.

The King, 75, and Camilla, 77 — who have been enjoying an end-of-summer holiday in Balmoral in a royal tradition that the late Queen partook in throughout her reign — were spotted arriving by car to the nearby church of Crathie Kirk to attend a Sunday morning service.

The royals sat next to each other in the backseat as they traveled to the church, where they also spent time on what would have been Queen Elizabeth’s 98th birthday earlier this year.

The royal family’s official Instagram page honored the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s death by sharing a photo of the late monarch smiling. “Remembering Queen Elizabeth II, 1926-2022,” the caption read.

Last year, King Charles similarly spent the first anniversary of his mother’s death in the Scottish Highlands with Camila, where they were spotted attending a service at Crathie Kirk.

Just days after her final royal duty in 2022, Buckingham Palace announced Queen Elizabeth’s death in an official statement that read, “The Queen died peacefully at Balmoral this afternoon.”

The late royal, who reigned for 70 years and was one of the most iconic figures of both the 20th and 21st centuries, was succeeded immediately by Charles, her eldest son.

Charles’ firstborn son, Prince William, meanwhile, became next in line to the world’s most famous throne, followed by his firstborn son, Prince George.

Elizabeth’s death came over a year after her husband of 73 years, Prince Philip, died at age 99 in April 2021.

The King’s most recent church outing on the anniversary of his mother’s death comes as he continues treatment for cancer.

Buckingham Palace announced that the sovereign was diagnosed with cancer in February and, following a three-month stretch of postponing public-facing duties on doctor’s orders (but continuing to work behind the scenes), the King returned to forward-facing work in April.

Camila, who has been by his side throughout the treatments, offered a rare comment on her husband’s health earlier this month.

While visiting the new Dyson Cancer Center at the Royal United Hospital in Bath, England, on Sept. 3, the royal said that the King “is doing very well,” according to The Mirror.
