Kristen Doute and Luke Broderick’s romance is playing out on The Valley, including their September 2024 engagement.

The reality TV star first met Broderick when they were in the same wedding party in June 2022. They kept their romance under wraps for several months and started a joint podcast in November 2022. The following month, Doute announced their relationship on an episode of the audio show.

Since then, the couple’s relationship has been featured on their podcast, as well as the first season of the Vanderpump Rules spinoff. Doute also opened up about her connection with Broderick during a March 2024 interview with Entertainment Tonight, telling the outlet, “I trust our relationship and how much we have worked on communication and therapy.”

She added, “He is so communicative, so emotionally intelligent, that I knew he wouldn’t say yes if he weren’t able and willing to try to handle it.”

The couple initially crossed paths in June 2022 at Rachael O’Brien and Greg Hunter’s wedding, where Doute served as a bridesmaid while Broderick was a groomsman.

In the first episode of The Valley, Doute recounted how they were introduced two weeks after her split with her ex Alex Menache. She explained, “I thought, ‘He’s sweet, he’s kind, he’s funny.’ Then we had sex behind a tent, and the rest is history.”

Broderick shared a sentimental post about his relationship with Doute in January 2023, writing in part, “A lot changed for me in 2022. The best part was @kristendoute coming into my life.”

“We’ve had a lot of adventures and fun already and I can’t wait for what’s next!” he added. “Love you babe.”

Broderick is an outdoorsman, according to his Bravo bio. In addition to being an avid hunter and fisher, Broderick enjoys other outdoor activities, including chopping wood and golfing.

Doute and Broderick discussed their different opinions on hunting and fishing on a December 2022 episode of their podcast. She voiced her initial reactions to seeing her now-fiancé’s personal Instagram account for the first time, noting that it contained “a lot of hunting stuff.”

“It is tough, I won’t lie. However, I know that the way that you are about that, it’s something that’s very important to you,” Doute said.

Broderick added, “I’m a conservationist more than a hunter.”

In April 2024, the podcast changed to Balancing Act with Kristen Doute and Luke Broderick, featuring Ariana Madix as the first guest under the new name.

According to a description of the podcast, Doute and Broderick “get real from both the female and male perspective” about “adulting,” including balancing “life, love, work, play, family, friends, downfalls, and dreams.”

Broderick may be dating a reality TV star, but he isn’t personally a fan of being in the spotlight.

In a December 2022 episode of their podcast, Doute revealed that she suggested that he create a second Instagram account because she didn’t want him to have to “subscribe to the scrutiny” that she experienced after starring on the small screen.

“He’s such a kind, loving, good hearted person who knows nothing about this world in Los Angeles — the podcast world, the reality TV world, the Instagram world that I have chose to live in,” she explained. “We all know that. I made that choice. He didn’t deserve it.”

In a March 2024 interview with Entertainment Tonight, Broderick discussed the decision he made with Doute to appear on TV for the greater good of their relationship and future together.

“Here is the deal — this was discussed prior to us dating, making it official, that if we make it a thing, I have to agree to be on camera,” he told the outlet. “So I am following through with my side of the deal.”

Doute added, “And my side of the deal is when we become parents, when the baby or the child is of school age, we no longer live in proper L.A.”

He’s a cast member on The Valley

Though he isn’t a big fan of the spotlight, Broderick is one of the main cast members of Bravo’s The Valley, which features Vanderpump Rules alums Doute, Jax Taylor and Brittany Cartwright.

Doute told Entertainment Tonight in March 2024 that it was “nerve-wracking” to be on TV again, but ultimately knew it was an “exciting” opportunity, especially for her relationship with Broderick.

“I think I have just evolved so much,” she explained. “We have our podcast, but I really wanted to showcase our life and wanting to be married, eventually married, wanting to be parents.”

He moved to California for Doute

In March 2024, Doute and Broderick moved into an apartment in Valley Village, California. They gave Bravo’s The Daily Dish an apartment tour where they live with their three dogs and one gecko.

It was a major milestone for the couple: During the first two years of their relationship, Broderick split his time between Los Angeles and his home in Colorado. The move comes after they opened up about why they decided not to live together full-time.

In a confessional during the fourth episode of The Valley, Broderick spoke about his life in Colorado, explaining, “Everything I’ve built up in life, everything I’ve worked for has been accumulating in Colorado. We also have a better circle, I think of people — true, down-to-earth, good people.”

In another scene, Doute emphasized that California is “important” to her. She shared, “I can’t leave California tomorrow or next year or the year after, but I think giving it a couple of years. I’ve moved three times in a year and a half. I can’t do it again.”

Now, it seems the couple have come to a compromise and are excited about their next chapter.

He is a family man

While Broderick has shared glimpses of his romance with Doute on social media, he’s also showcased his love and appreciation for his family online.

In addition to calling his brother, Ethan, his best friend, he posted a touching message about his family in March 2023 to mark International Women’s Day with a series of photos featuring his female family members.

“I love my family so much. Being in California and 2000+ miles away from my amazing sisters, mother, grandmothers and niece wears on me,” he wrote.” Happy #InternationalWomensDay ! You’re all so special to me and amazing in your own ways.”

In May 2023, he shared a photo posing with his niece in a belated Easter post. He wrote in the caption, “I was fortunate to spend it with my family. Only got one picture, but it’s a good one. Love my niece and nephew!”

Doute and Broderick have been open about their desire to start a family together.

During the season premiere of The Valley, Doute got candid in a confessional about motherhood, explaining, “Watching all of my friends over the past few years get married, have babies, grow their families. I’m the oldest girl in this group. When’s my time?”

In November 2023, the couple revealed on their podcast that they experienced a miscarriage at six weeks. During the episode, Broderick said that it had been “hard” for the couple in the aftermath of pregnancy loss. He also voiced his continued support for Doute, telling her, “I just know that I have to be your rock here, and I want to.”

Doute told PEOPLE in May 2024 that she and Broderick are still very “hopeful” that a baby is in their future. “We’re back on the train trying … fingers crossed,” she said.
